One of the fun and also weird part about being a real adult is that you have a lot of couple friends, but you actually want to hang out with each other as group and not just couple up and separate like we used to in the beginning stages of our relationships or as teenagers. While it’s fun to just sit around and talk, sometimes you exhaust that option and are ready something more active. You’re also probably hungry at that point, because chatting can really work up an appetite…
This is what led to to this very unusual usage of my HelloFresh delivery.
I had just gotten it on a day that my friends were in town and staying at our house, and I thought, “what better way to try it out?!” It ended with three flavorful, unique meals that we split into four. We got to try every meal in our box and had fun sharing our tiny kitchen in the process. Read on to learn about HelloFresh, how it works, and why I found it to be both practical and fun (which I can assure you is not something I say about cooking often).

It basically came in a box that was insulated and packed to perfection. There was a little section where the meats were all kept extra cool, and then the bags contained the rest of the ingredients and its recipe and were labeled by meal. The three meals we got were:
- Crantastic Turkey Burgers
- Beef Sizzle Stir Fry
- Moo Shu Pork Tacos
One of my favorite parts about this service is it comes with 95% off the ingredients. The only thing it didn’t contain for us was salt, pepper, sugar and olive oil. That means there was absolutely no need to go to the grocery store. Shopping in NYC is a major pain in the butt, so eliminating that was worth everything.
Not to mention the fact that all the ingredients came in the exact amount you need for your recipe. You don’t have to measure or eyeball (where I tend to go wrong), it’s ready as-is.
Side note: the packaging for the ingredients was adorable. See the plastic fishes that hold the soy sauce and the mini mayo bottles.
The recipes also made life easy for an amateur like me. They tell you each step simply and illustrate it with photos (helpful when you still need a definitions for dicing vs. slicing).
If you’re new to HelloFresh, you can use code KAYLAS30 to get $30 off your first box! I highly highly recommend trying it, especially if you want to improve your diet with little additional time and effort.
Divide and cook:
For the date night, we split up the meals. Hubby and I made two of the recipes and our friends teamed up to make the third. We had fun swapping the main ingredients and trading pans and utensils in our little space.
As someone who has no patience for cooking… I have to say, I enjoyed making my HelloFresh recipe (I was on stir fry duty). I loved using ingredients I have literally never used before, and having it all sized out and illustrated in front of me, made it foolproof. As. fool, I’m very grateful for that.
Also, the kitchen smelled unlike it ever had before! It was mouthwatering.
The final result:
Unfortunately, I only got photos of the Crantastic Turkey Burger, because after this was made, the other two meals were completed and we went to town devouring them.
I truly enjoyed each of the three meals, and so did the other three chefs. All of us tried things we never had before and reveled in the flavors and unique combinations of ingredients. In my opinion the burger was actually the best, followed by the tacos and then the stir fry.
My friends, husband and I had a blast creating these and then getting to enjoy a unique smorgasbord as the result of our hard work. The only negative was that we had to end the double date with washing dishes, but I have to say it was a small price to pay for one of the best meals I’ve ever had at home.
