fall layers begin with boody | Kayla's Five Things

Layering is an art form. It’s especially difficult in the summer, so if you were able to do that without dying from overheating, you are my hero. I don’t have the inherent ability to summer layer, but I can pile clothes and accessories atop each other until it works. That’s pretty much how I do fall.

For me the secret to layering is actually the base of the look. Sometimes it’s the least visible, but it always makes the most difference.

There are a few key things you need for your base layer:

  • comfortable enough to wear all day- this is the one layer you can’t shed!
  • soft enough to feel good on your skin
  • cool enough to not force you to strip every time you go indoors
  • thin enough to not create bulk underneath other shirts, dresses, coats, etc.

I wouldn’t dare tell you what you’re looking for without giving you a solution. Readers, meet Boody. This company makes the best basics you could every ask for. They meet all my base layer requirements  with flying colors:

  • comfortable enough to wear all day- this is the one layer you can’t shed!  Most of their products have no seams or tags (read: your skin doesn’t itch or get irritated all day long).
  • soft enough to feel good on your skin  The fabric (partially made with bamboo) is so silky, soft.
  • cool enough to not force you to strip every time you go indoors All their products moisture-wicking and thermo-regulating, so changing from the cold outdoors to the heated indoors just became so much easier (and less sweaty).
  • thin enough to not create bulk underneath other shirts, dresses, coats, etc. Their fabric is thin, lightweight and actually comes rolled in the tiniest boxes.

Check out how I started with a Boody Cami Bodysuit then added three layers to create the below look. I love starting with bodysuits, because they tuck into pants well, cling to your body and kind of tuck all the extra belly away. The beauty of this body suit is that is has snaps at the crotch area. As a woman who has to pee every 30 minutes, the ability to go to the restroom without taking all my layers off is seriously KEY.

Let me know what you think of my look in the comments, and here’s to getting down to the Boody basics!

  1. OMG Kayla, tell me where you got those boots! As a shorty I need some OTK boots that actually work and those look fab. Also, def trying out the base layers. I’m always on the hunt for work appropriate ones!
