Monday night, this season’s Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay, sassily remarked that she’s “living her best life” to her former beau, Peter. That got me thinking about how I live my best life, but in the very basic sense of the phrase (we ain’t getting deep in this one). I don’t know about you, but my best life is a picnic in the summer with cheese. I can’t think of anything better…
Summer time is really where I come alive. I think mainly because I despise winter. I’ve been through four so far, but that already feels like too many. I’m still a Florida girl at heart, and I just feel more comfortable with a thin layer of sweat on my brow.
In Florida, I mainly stayed wherever there was AC, because summer was year-round. In NYC, I flock to nearest patch of grass as frequently as possible. I just feel like I need to soak up the warmth and good weather any chance I can. I really try to take advantage of my favorite season, especially as it starts to come to end (everyone hates when I point that out).
My favorite summer activity is to go to Central Park (or my nearby UES park, Carl Schurz Park) with a picnic blanket, a cooler and my hubby or a group of pals. The menu frequently changes. We’ve brought entire pizzas with beer in the cooler, subs with sodas and our latest: cheese and crackers. It’s really hard to go wrong, as long as it doesn’t require an additional 15lbs or five bags to lug all the way to the park.
The main thing to worry about is the blanket. That can make or break your comfort level. We bought one at a thrift shop awhile back that is super cute, but honestly SO WARM. I brought it to a picnic recently, and it made my legs sweat. I had to keep getting up and getting some air. Not cool.
I felt completely the opposite about this Beach Candy™ Picnic Blanket from Turkish T. It’s so light and airy. It keeps you cooler, but is still soft enough to feel comfortable and like theirs some sort of barrier between you grass. Us city dwellers always have to keep a little distance between nature and us…
It also was large enough to accommodate two above average humans (both sitting and laying down) and our cheese feast.

It also was thin enough that it was super easy to transport from our home to the park. I think it will make for a great beach blanket as well. I am hopefully going this weekend, so check my IG story to see it in action.
Get yourself the right picnic blanket, and go live your best summer life… while you still can!
