You can just forget about LBD’s throughout your engagement… there’s another style that will be running your wardrobe this year: little white dresses (aka LWD’s). I know what you’re thinking: I don’t currently own any, so this is going to be expensive. Obviously, I’ve got the perfect solution for you blushing brides-to-be.
T.J. Maxx has an entire section of LWD’s online! It’s seriously so much fun to search through, and the section is constantly getting replenished with different styles in every price range. Honestly, I would just bookmark the pages and check it every week or so to see what’s new and if there’s anything that fits your style and upcoming event.
I’ll go into details for what LWD styles are typically expected for every bridal event as well as suggestions on accessorizing, but before that I want to share some advice for any LWD you purchase:
- Find a shade that fits your skin tone. Stark white can easily wash out certain skin tones, so make sure that you choose an off white color if that’s the case for you OR…
- … choose the tone of white depending on when you’ll be wearing the dresses. For example, you can probably choose a harsh white for the honeymoon and bachelorette if you know you’ll be going somewhere where your skin will get ample sunshine and color. For your rehearsal dinner in February, maybe an off-white or white with accents is better suited to your increasingly light skin.
- Find a flattering cut. Unlike LBD’s, LWD’s do NOT hide every roll. Make sure all choices you pick are a flattering shape on you. For me, I need something that cuts me off above my hips and then flares out. I also need something that accentuates my legs and hides my upper arms. Totally doable for every occasion without having to repeat the same, boring dress.
- Don’t wear the dress before the event. Once you purchase, I wouldn’t do anything besides try it on. If you’re every a little bit clumsy, you will stain it and be very very upset with yourself
- Add some color in your accessories!
In my opinion, bridal showers serve as a great opportunity to dress a little more girly and more boho than usual. It’s a usually a daytime event filled with your gal pals and female relatives. It’s also typically sundress/day dress attire.
It’s also the perfect excuse to wear a flower crown, if you’ve ever wanted to…
I chose this T.J. Maxx dress with fabulous lace detailing and a low back. It’s feminine, comfortable and appropriate for both an indoor and outdoor event. I accessorized with colorful, drop earrings (you can never go wrong with “something blue” at bridal events) and black lace-up sandals. I prefer a comfortable, low heel for all day time events.
There is no reason to be in pain at your own party!
This entire look was less than $100 by the way…
Find the above dress here, similar earrings here and the shoes here.
Because the theme of the party is a little sexy, I think it’s completely appropriate to add a little sexy to your look. I think lingerie showers can occur during the day or at night, so you’ll have to cater to that once you find out the timing.
The attire is usually similar to bridal showers, but can range to be more like a bachelorette party depending on the guest list. If it’s more family (including grandma and future in-laws) than I would keep your look more G-rated. If it’s centered around friends and people your age, I think you have a little leeway for PG-attire (aka add a little more sexy).
Depending on your body type and style, I would recommend something a little more form fitting without being body-con. For accessories, I think you should base it on the time of day, but I would recommend kitten heels, booties or wedges. Again, staying low to the ground, but still adding some pizzaz.
It’s time to go full on sexy for this event! Your mother-in-law-to-be is most likely not in attendance for this one, so I say, pick a body part you like and let it shine!
I personally think it’s important to always balance out the sexy. You don’t need a tight, short dress that shows a lot of boobs. That can easily step over into trashy. Instead, pick one or two things to highlight and keep the rest covered up.
Accessories are crucial to your bachelorette party look. I think sparkly jewelry and heels are in order for this event. Again, it all depends on what you choose to highlight, but drop-down earrings that serve as arrows to your killer boobies… never hurts.
Look and feel hot for this last hurrah with your ladies. It’s too fun of an opportunity not to!
Most rehearsal dinners require cocktail attire. It’s a semi-formal dress (or jumpsuit) with heels. I suggest airing on the side of classy for this event. You want to look mature enough to be tying the knot the next day and feel beautiful in the perfect LWD.
I would suggest a dress that is knee-length or below and a classic pump or strappy heel. I would also pick a dress (like the one below) that needs only subtle jewelry. The focus should be on you and your cheesy grin that you’ll have on all night… not necessarily the fancy bracelet. I would go for pretty stud earrings and a delicate ring stack.
You may think your days of wearing LWD’s is over, but I found that I wanted one more occasion to dress like a bride after the big day. I didn’t want the fun year of celebrations to be over so I held onto my role by finding the perfect vacation LWD.
This dress entirely depends on where and when you go on your honeymoon, but for a beach vacation I would find something loose and casual. This dress below is great because it can be dressed up (big turquoise earrings + strappy leather heels) or dressed down (sunglasses + sandals). You could wear it over your suit or alone to dinner.
All I’m saying is that you’ll miss the days when you needed a LWD every other month, so enjoy this year and the affection and love your feel strutting around in your fab LWD’s!
