Every year, hubby and I throw an Ugly Christmas Sweater party and most years it’s the only time we get all of our friends from different groups and parts of our life under one roof. It has always been the highlight of my holiday season. I so enjoy just being ridiculous with my friends from the comfort of my own home and getting to put the Christmas decorations I’ve spent so much time on to good use.
Below I shared all the key ingredients to an awesome night with friends (heads up: beer pong is DEFINITELY one of them). Let me know what you think of how we used our small space for this party in the comments below.

It’s all about setting the right mood and feel of the party. Luckily, I decorated for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving, so I was all set and ready to go. I also got a printable “Ugly” banner for the occasion. So inexpensive, but perfectly ties in the theme.
For me, I like to set the mood with lots of sparkly lights and as much green and red as possible. I’m not trying to be classy and cool here- I’m trying to be kitschy and over-the-top.
Make sure you find my awesome blogging related ornament lolol.
The Photo Booth
Every year, I make sure to set up a photo booth in our bedroom, because bloggers just need social media tie-in’s. It’s a known fact. This year, I upped our photo booth game and purchased a customizable one from Etsy (scroll down for the link). It was so worth it, because finally we had the right size for everyone andddd even had photo booth props to go with it.
My friends had so much fun, despite having to lay on our bed to take photos because our room is so small. Ha! Check out some of the shots below to get a better feel of the fun.
The Voting Station
It’s very important to me that people dress in costume (penalty shots are given to those who disobey the dress code). One way I encourage that and make it worth their while is to have people vote for their favorite sweaters/outfits. These ballots and ribbons came in the massive printable pack I bought from Etsy (link below) and I just had to do a little cutting and crafting to get them to look like ribbons. Then, I awarded the three winners at the end of night by making a big announcement and pinning it on their costume.
It’s extra fun when these winners keep their ribbons on at the bars we go hit up after… #NeverTooOld
The Party Supplies
I always make sure to have ice for storing all the BYOB beer, bottle openers, solo cups, shot glasses and more. It’s nice to just lay it out for everyone so that a) you don’t have to stop what you’re doing every 5 seconds to get something for your guests and b) guests won’t feel bad asking for things. They’ll know it’s a DIY sort of party, and, in my opinion, that’s just more comfortable for everyone.
I also got a few festive koozies for Christmas. I used mine all night and think they’d make great party favors if you can buy them in bulk for your guests!
I never go crazy with food, because it’s always an 8pm party. Most likely they’ve had dinner, and I always tell people they’re free to get food delivered to our place if they do start to get hungry towards the end of the night. Since everyone is drinking pretty steadily throughout, I do make sure to have someee snacks on hand. It’s just better for everyone in the morning if they can munch on chips and cookies throughout the night.
In case you need sweater inspo…
